Irene F. Vaughan 99 of Urbana died at 3:53 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Meadowbrook Healthcare Center, Urbana.

Irene was born in LaGrange on May 21, 1915, a daughter of Zoe Benton and Clem C. Ford. She was predeceased by her, son, Edward C. Vaughan and her two sisters; Esther Sessel and Phoebe Ann Hamlin.

Irene Ford Vaughan attended public schools in LaGrange and graduated from the University of Chicago in 1936 with an A.B. in English Literature. She attended the School of Library Science at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, graduating in 1937 with a BLS degree.

The first job held by Irene Vaughan was at the Oak Park, Illinois public Library. She later moved back to Champaign, and received a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois in 1945. She subsequently worked in Chicago at the National Society for Crippled Children and Adults.

Irene Ford married Herbert Vaughan in September 1947, and relocated to Urbana. Herbert died in April 1992.

After living for many years on Vine Street in Urbana, Irene Vaughan moved in 1992 to Clark-Lindsey Village. Her former home was sold to the Urbana School District and its site is now part of the Urbana High School and Middle School grounds. Mrs. Vaughan enjoyed gardening and playing the piano.

There will be no services. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
