Irene Harnsberger, 91, of Urbana passed away at 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2010 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL 61802. Mr. Nathan Montgomery will officiate. Committal services will be private. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, November 23 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Harnsberger was born October 4, 1919 in Urbana to Miles and Elizabeth (Aschermann) Clements. She married Edward G. Harnsberger on October 23, 1939 in Veedersburg, Indiana. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1983. Survivors include three sons; James R. Harnsberger (Ellen) of Shelbyville, IL and Mesa, AZ, Thomas E. Harnberger (Penny) of Urbana, Ronald D. Harnsberger (Margie) of Mesa, AZ, one brother; Harold Clements (Pat) of Urbana, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, Charles E. Harnsberger, who passed away in 1987.

Mrs. Harnsberger worked as a seamstress in the alterations department of Bergner's for 22 A½ years, retiring at the age of 80. Irene was a 4-H leader in Philo during the 1950's, where she taught Home Economics and sewing. She also worked for Troy's Uniform Shop, doing in-home alterations. In addition, she also did numerous alterations for private clients. Irene was an avid gardener, and sewing was her passion in life. She had also been an active member of the American Business Women's Association, and was nominated for the Woman of the Chapter Award in 1975.
