Obituary

- Helen Lucille Wheatley, 90, of Savoy, IL was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Helen was employed at the University of Illinois Illini Union Food Services for over 28 years.

Helen was the oldest daughter of Carl and Alice Loyd of Des Arc, MO. Helen was born on May 13, 1927 in Piedmont, MO. She is survived by her husband, Harold David Wheatley and four children, Judith Kay Eldridge(Ken) of Franklin, IN, Carl David Wheatley(Kris) of Wichita, KS, Mary Alice Griffith(Roger) of Champaign, and Jeffery Eugene Wheatley(Susan) of Sharpsburg, GA, and one brother, James Loyd(Donna) of Bonne Terre, MO. Helen has seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothy Brooks.

Harold and Helen were united in marriage on January 25, 1946 in Corning, AR after knowing each other for one week. She loved to travel and fish. As a young girl in school, she was a very good volleyball player and even in later years she played on the church teams. She enjoyed Swedish weaving, gardening and collecting tea sets and dishes.

Helen was a member of Pennsylvania Ave. Baptist Church for over 50 years and sang in the church choir. She was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 5520 Champaign V.F.W. and was a Mature Driving Instructor for AARP for several years.

Helen was a great Mom, grandmother and great grandmother, and will truly be missed by everyone that knew her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Ave. Baptist Church, 600 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Urbana, IL, with visitation two hours prior to the funeral(Noon-2:00 P.M.) at the church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Memorials may be made to the Pennsylvania Ave. Baptist Church Building Fund or Shriners Children's Hospital, St. Louis, MO. Condolences may be offered at www.renner-wikoffchapel.com.
