Obituary

Helen H. Ogata, age 88, of The Windsor of Savoy, formerly of Urbana, died 4:05 a.m. Friday, May 30 at Meadowbrook Healthcare Center in Urbana.

Mrs. Ogata was born March 27, 1920 in Sterling, the daughter of Emil and Lizzie (Zook) Haak. She married Kent M. Ogata on December 31, 1942 in Urbana. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1980. She is also preceded in death by 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

She is survived by a son, Kent C. Ogata and wife Priscilla of Arcadia, Mich., two daughters, Carole J. Ogata and husband Walter King of Anna and Jayne H. Ogata and husband Matthew Bernstein of Milton, Mass.; sisters, Kathryn Person of Polo and Arlene Copenhaver of Deerfield; brother, Melvin Haak and wife Elaine of Polo; brother-in-law, Dr. Kenje Ogata and wife Wilma; sister-in-law, Jeannie Haak of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Mrs. Ogata started her career in 1943 at the University of Illinois in the Extension Division and later was Administrative Secretary for the Office of Public Information and retired in 1979 as Personal Administrative Secretary for the Department of Social Sciences - L.A.S. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Urbana, the Auxiliary of Provena Covenant Hospital, Champaign Urbana Junior Women's Club, Community Women's Club and the Urbana Golf and Country Club

Memorial Services will be Monday June 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Mausoleum, Champaign. Richard McGuire will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
