Helen Ruth Ironsmith Moore, 91, of Urbana (formerly of Decatur) died on August 6, 2011 at Meadowbrook Health Center in Urbana. Born on December 31, 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri, she was the second of four children of Edward and Edith Ironsmith. She attended schools in Kansas City where she trained and worked as a medical technologist. In June 1943 Helen married John "Jack" Warren Brown, then a lieutenant (junior grade) in the US Naval Reserves. He was lost at sea when his submarine disappeared north of Japan on its initial mission in late July 1944. After World War 11, Helen continued her schooling at the University of Illinois, and she graduated in 1947. In August 1947 in Champaign, she married Robert E. Moore of Cowden, Illinois, also a University of Illinois graduate. After their initial years of marriage they made their home in Decatur, where they were active members of Central Christian Church. Helen helped work for the family business, Haines & Essick Co. in Decatur. Upon Robert's death on April 1, 1995, Helen continued living in Decatur for several years before moving to Urbana. She spent her final years contentedly as an active resident of Clark-Lindsey Village and as a member of University Place Christian Church in Champaign. She was a long-time golfer, bridge player, and an avid reader. Helen is survived by her younger brother, Harry Ironsmith of Raytown, Missouri; her two children, Jane Moore Freyfogle (Eric T. Freyfogle) of Urbana and R. Michael Moore (Yolande Moore) of Houston, Texas; her four grandchildren, Luke and Anna Freyfogle and Lindsey and Whitney Moore, and her two step-grandchildren, Daniel and Rachel Klein. A memorial service for Helen Moore will be held on Sunday, August 14 at 2:00pm at University Place Christian Church. Family will greet guests between 1:30 and 2:00pm at the church. A reception will follow, from 3:00 to 4:30pm, at Clark-Lindsey Village. A private burial will take place on Monday, August 15 at Mound Cemetery in Cowden, IL. Memorial gifts may be made to University Place Christian Church, 403 S. Wright, Champaign, IL 61820 or Clark-Lindsey Legacy Fund, 101 W. Windsor, Urbana, IL 61802.
