Obituary

URBANA - Hazel L. Alberts, age 81, long time resident of Urbana, died on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at her daughter and son-in-law's home, Amazing Grace, in St. Joseph.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2007 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 2200 S. Philo Road, Urbana, with her funeral service to follow at1:00 p.m. Pastor Bob Rasmus will be officiating. Following the service, burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens, in Champaign. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Alberts was born June 8, 1926, in rural St. Joseph, a daughter of Abbie Loeschen Price and Orville William Price. Baptized July 3, 1926, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Flatville, IL and confirmed August 25, 1940, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Royal, IL. She married Dale O. Von Linger (May 30, 1950) and Donald J. Alberts (November 24, 1972). They both predeceased her. Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Von Linger) McLane (Bill) of St. Joseph, a sister, Leona Amrock of Edmond, Oklahoma, a brother, Robert Price of Champaign; three granddaughters Stacy Williamson of Gainesville, FL, Stephanie Alves (Mike) of Champaign, and Jennifer Hansen (Eric) of Urbana, and five great grandchildren Abbie and Ashley Williamson, Andrew and Alexia Alves and Oskar Hansen. She is also survived by two step-sons, David Alberts of Greenbriar, Arkansas and Philip Alberts of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and seven step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gene Price and Eldon Price.

Mrs. Alberts retired after 25 years of service with the Order Dept of C S Johnson & Company in Champaign (1952-1977). During World War II, she worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington DC. She also worked at Cap 'N Gown (1946-50) in Champaign and the corporate offices of Crane Plumbing in downtown Chicago (1950-1952). She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Urbana since 1944 and a life member and past president of Busey-Fletcher-Stillwell VFW Post 630 Auxiliary in Urbana. She enjoyed bowling and bowled in national tournaments throughout the US during the '60s. She was an avid and loyal St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed celebrating her 80th birthday in the new St. Louis Cardinal Stadium. She was destined to be a cardinal fan as the Cardinals were World Series Champs the year she was born and the last year of her life. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 2200 S.
