Harriet Ella Haycock Brown, 83, of Urbana, Illinois died Friday morning, April 18, 2008 at Clark-Lindsey Village in Urbana.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 21 at Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church, 102 N. State, Champaign. Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of Harriet's life at the home of Tom and Mary Ann Brown immediately following the service. Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
Harriet was born April 7, 1925 in Hastings, Nebraska, a daughter of Willis F. and Ethel Macfarlane Haycock. She spent much of her youth in Callaway, Nebraska and the family later moved to Springfield, Illinois. She married J. Lloyd Brown in 1948. He survives.
Survivors also include two sons and their families: Thomas L. and Mary Ann Brown of Urbana and their three sons Davis, Geoffrey, and Ross; and Edward H. and Debra Brown of Atlanta and their two children, Katie and Spencer. She was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Nancy Haycock Kemp.
Harriet graduated with honors from the University of Illinois School of Music. She joined Pi Beta Phi sorority and remained active throughout her life, both locally and nationally, as Province Director and National Historian. She served two terms as President of the University of Illinois Alumni Club of Naples, Florida and was a past member of the University of Illinois Foundation Board.
She also served as President of the Junior Aid of Urbana-Champaign and the Junior Service League. She was a member of Urbana Golf and Country Club and the Island Country Club of Marco Island, Florida. She actively planned and participated in numerous Follies of the Urbana-Champaign Service League as well as biannual talent shows at the Island Country Club.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Champaign. Condolences may be offered at renner-wikoffchapel.com.
