Harold J. Poeschl, 85 of Urbana died at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Thomasboro, the Rev. Fr. Stanley Malinowski officiating. Burial will be at Danville National Cemetery, Danville. There will be no public visitation, Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Poeschl was born on December 21, 1923 in Plum City, WI, the son of John and Theresa Weisenbeck Poeschl. He married Lois E. Oesterreicher on December 29, 1947 in Durand, WI; she died on September 12, 1992.

Survivors include two sons; Dr. Steven J. (Janet) Poeschl of Alden, MN and Thomas J. (Virginia) Poeschl of Creswell, OR and one daughter; Martha A. (Mitch) Duszynski of Urbana, one sister; Lorraine Zeilinger of Durand, WI, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Mr. Poeschl was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and was a State Resource Conservationist for the Soil Conservation Service.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Urbana.

Mr. Poeschl was an avid Christmas tree farmer; he loved his prairie plants and being outdoors.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or MADD.
