Harold James "Jim" Miller, 85, of Urbana, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ at 4:11 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Margaret "Grace", and his brother, Raymond Miller. He is also survived by their five children, Daryl Miller, of Seattle, WA, David Miller, of Poulsbo, WA, Donna Jeanne Schneider , of Lynchburg, VA, Dianne Biehl, of Upland, IN, and Denice Parker, of Wheaton, IL, as well as 23 grandchildren, 10 spouses of grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother; Richard.
Jim was born on February 20, 1929 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Harold Baldwin and Esther Dolly Morgan Miller. He married Grace on June 7, 1950 in Topeka, Kansas.
The Millers moved to India in 1966, where Jim was involved in development projects with the United States Agency for International Development. He consulted on design of nine agricultural university campuses. After returning from India in 1972, Mr. Miller taught architecture at the University of Illinois while continuing international projects, as well local, for various churches, Christian Universities, and mostly non-profit religious organizations.
He was a member of Twin City Bible Church, Urbana and the Gideon's. He loved to travel, photography and music, speicifically gospel hymns. His family and church were the center of his life, and he did his work for the glory of God. He was a man of conviction and purpose. He left a legacy of faith and commitment.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Twin City Bible Church, Urbana; Rev. Shannon Caughey will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Champaign. Renner-Wikoff Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
