Gordon Ficklin, 72, of Urbana, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at home. A visitation will be held Monday, May 8, 2017 from 11:00 am- 12:30 pm at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.

Gordon was born October 17, 1944 in Indianapolis, the son of Raymond and Joan (Arie) Ficklin Moench.

He married Carolyn Havice on December 8, 1963.

Gordon is survived by his wife Carolyn, son G.R. Raymond Ficklin (Rikki) of Tolono, sister Julie Stombaugh (Butch), of Seymour, and son-in-law Mel McGregor, of Oakland. He is also survived by grandchildren: Jordan Ficklin, Josie King McGregor, and Blake, Abrianna, Correye, and Erinne Johnson. Neices Deb Stombaugh and Whitney Havice, and nephews Ray Stombaugh and Brett Havice also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Christina Ficklin McGregor.

In his younger years he started out as a bricklayer. In his late twenties he went into the garbage business when he bought Illini Sanitary in Urbana. Later he started his own garbage business Klean-Way Disposal in Champaign until he sold it and retired in January.

In his younger years he enjoyed boating with his wife and children at Lake Mattoon.

In his retirement he really enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching old westerns on TV and spending time socializing with his buddies.
