Obituary

Gloria F. Mueller, 86, of Urbana, died at 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Graveside rites at Roselawn Cemetery are private for family only. A memorial service celebrating the life of Gloria Mueller will be held Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana.

Gloria F. Mueller was born January 25, 1926 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Christo and Martha Finzel Filipoff. She married Allan Mueller in November of 1947. He survives.

Survivors include a daughter, Becky Rae Musch (Thomas) of Naperville, IL, and a daughter in law, Barbara Mueller of Geneva, IL. .

A son, Ross Mueller, preceded her in death in 1999.

Gloria earned a BA in Languages from the U of I in 1947. She and her husband were long time season ticket holders to the Illini Basketball program and members of the Rebounders. Mrs. Mueller was a long time volunteer at Champaign County Nursing Home and developed the Thursday morning Auxiliary music program and led it for thirty years. She also donated two pianos to the nursing home and would play piano for the Alzheimer's unit. She was awarded the 1993 Book of Golden Deeds Award from the Exchange Club in Urbana for her volunteer work. She also received Illinois Volunteer of the Year Award from the Illinois Association of Nursing Home Administrators. Mrs. Mueller served as Coordinator of Volunteers for Telecare in the late 1960's and early 1970's. She also served as a volunteer for WILL radio station where she timed all of the new record acquisitions. Mrs. Mueller was a dedicated volunteer at Champaign County Nursing Home for 35 years.

Gloria and her husband, Allan, traveled on two sabbaticals to South Africa, and traveled to Ireland, England, Scotland, southern Germany, northern Italy, and Australia.
