Obituary

Gloria Jean (Smith) Amos-Hunt, 73, of Urbana passed away at 12:26 a.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Paxton Healthcare and Rehab Center. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. J. Michael Smith officiating. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana.

Gloria was born August 14, 1942 in Roseland, Illinois to parents William Smith and Beulah (Ash) Paris. She married Arnett Hunt on May 1, 1991 in Lynwood, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 2008. Survivors include children; Carrie Lape (Lance), of Lansing, Illinois, Steven Amos, of Homer Glen, Illinois, siblings; Carol Laxton, of Merrillville, Indiana, Glenn Smith, of Urbana, Illinois, Douglas Smith, of Urbana, Illinois, Arlene Higginbotham, of Homer, Illinois, Penny Russell, of Champaign, Illinois, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Gary and Peggy Smith.

Gloria graduated from Unity High School in 1961. As a young adult, she worked in a factory and various jobs, in addition to being a homemaker. In 1981, she graduated from Thornton Community College in South Holland, Illinois. She worked as a Social Activities Director at the Care Center of Urbana for more than five years.

Gloria enjoyed the time she spent volunteering at her children's school and serving in the PTO. She was also a member of the Welcome Wagon and the General Federation of Women's Club. She served as the Mustangs Jr. Football League Treasurer, as well.

Gloria was an avid reader and loved various crafts like macramAC., wood finishing projects, ceramics and oil painting. She was a natural redhead who loved delicious meals and collecting antiques.
