URBANA, IL- Glenn Grandville Poor Jr. passed away at 1:25 A.M., Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the VA Illiana Health Care Systems hospital in Danville, IL. Glenn was born on October 1, 1927 in Urbana, IL to Rosalind Roberts Poor and Glenn G. Poor, Sr. Glenn attended Urbana High School and competed in football and wrestling. He married Betty Gher in 1947. Glenn served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1945-1946, and again from 1950-1953. He attended the University of Illinois from 1945 -1948. He became a Triumph and BSA motorcycle dealer while in college and, in 1949, he and his father started Glenn's Poor's T.V. (Urbana, IL)-- the first in the region to sell televisions.
His love of sports cars led to his being an early member of the Champaign Country Sports Car Club. Glenn was a longstanding member of the Porsche Club of America. He was a founding member of the Lincoln Trails Region of PCA and retained his interest in Porsches and PCA throughout his life.
Glenn handled and bred bird dogs from 1950 until 2008, and competed in field trial competitions in IL, IN, MI & WI. He has remained a Charter member of the East Central IL Pointer & Setter Field Trial Club, and in 1989 was selected for the Field Trial Clubs of IL Honor Roll, was also an Honorary Associate Member, and was a member of the Grand National Grouse Championship Club. Survivors include two sons, Geoff(Ann Eisner-Poor) Poor of Champaign, John(Melody) Poor of Hollywood Beach, Fla., and Lynn Poor-Wunderli(Peter) of Waunakee, WI; 10 grandchildren: Jason Peoples, Nicole Diehl, Whitney Poor, Kathi Wunderli-Bastian, Justin Peoples, Laney Wunderli, Kaitlyn Eisner-Poor, Chelsea Wunderli, Madilyn Wunderli, and Olivia Wunderli. 6 great grandchildren: Jaina Peoples, Jasie Peoples, Jamison Peoples, Kaylee Peoples, Jayce Prasad, and Addison Diehl. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Cathy Poor-Peoples, one brother and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at 3 P.M., Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences may be offered online at www.renner-wikoffchapel.com.
