Obituary

Glenn Eri "Ghee" Livingston Larimore, 90, of Urbana died at Meadowbrook Healthcare Center on June 17, 2015. Ghee as she was known by her family and friends was born September 20, 1924. Ghee was the youngest daughter of William Eri and Mary Evelyn Glenn Livingston of Little Rock, Arkansas. Her parents and her two sisters, Maureen Baldwin of St. Louis and Margaret Dugan of Little Rock preceded her in death.

On a blind date, Ghee met the love of her life Richard Weldon (Larry) Larimore. Ghee and Larry were married on April 5, 1947 in Little Rock. They began their married life in Urbana where Larry worked for the Illinois Natural History Survey. Except for a brief time in Ann Arbor, Michigan while Larry completed his Ph.D., Ghee and Larry lived, worked, and raised their family in Urbana. Larry preceded Ghee in death on January 13, 2015.

Ghee was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In her early years of marriage, Ghee worked as a church secretary and a nursery school teacher. She was a member of the Monday Prayer Group, the Ding Dongs, and a charter member of P.E.O. She enjoyed family, singing, the cabin, swimming, tai chi, and bird watching. Ghee loved reading as well as spending time organizing the family genealogy. She was a gracious hostess and loved a good party. She had a special knack for making people feel welcome and putting a smile on their faces, even if that meant wearing a specially made necklace from animal anatomy. Ghee was an essential partner in Larry's work traveling with him in Europe and Southeast Asia as he conducted scientific research for the United Nations and as a Fulbright Scholar. Ghee and Larry loved to travel for pleasure as well and enjoyed several winters in Mexico. Ghee was notorious for striking up a conversation and finding common ground with everyone she met. She corresponded regularly with friends from around the world.

Ghee is survived by her sons; Rick (Cloydia) of Urbana, Ken (Tanja) of Effingham, and Mike (Susan) of Frankfort, Kentucky. Ghee had three precious grandchildren; Rachel of Midland, Michigan; Ryan (Anne) of Monticello; and Eric of Effingham.

Cremation is being handled by Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory. A celebration of Ghee's life will be held Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Watseka Lounge of the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1203 W. Green Street, Urbana.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Illinois Foundation - R. Weldon Larimore/Jordan Creek Award Endowment Fund, 1305 W. Green Street, Urbana, IL 61801 or Cunningham Children's Home, 1301 N. Cunningham Avenue, Urbana, IL 61802.

If she were writing this, Ghee would remind us - "Enjoy yourself; it's later than you think. And, don't forget to count your blessings!"

Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice!
