URBANA, IL- Geraldine Louise Reiss, 92, passed away Wednesday evening, September 10, 2008 at the Meadowbrook Care Center in Urbana.
Mrs. Reiss was born June 1, 1916, in the small town of Solomon, Kansas, eldest daughter of Jacob Earle and Linna Irene Hulet. She married Franklin J. Reiss on August 22, 1940, in the McKinley Foundation at the University of Illinois from which they both graduated.
Surviving Mrs. Reiss are two sons, George H.I. Reiss and Richard F. Reiss and Richard's wife Cala Reiss and their two children, Jesse and Rebecca Reiss. Mrs. Reiss is also survived by her younger brother Richard Hulet.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister, Marjorie Blitz.
Mrs. Reiss was a 68 year resident of the Urbana community. Her husband was a distinguished Professor of Agriculture Economics at the University of Illinois.
Mrs. Reiss was herself very well known to the Urbana community from her life long service as an elementary school teacher in the Urbana system. Mrs. Reiss taught Third Grade at both Leal and Thomas Paine Schools.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Reiss were life long members of the First Presbyterian Church on Green Street in Urbana.
Mrs. Reiss and her husband loved to travel and were veteran world travelers, visiting all the major continents and many countries from Thailand to Tanzania, Australia to Argentina and from Russia to the Holy Land.
Mrs. Reiss lived a life of service and her generosity of spirit and sense of giving touched all who knew her. In her later years, her life long passion for books saw her as the head of the Library Committee for Clark-Lindsey Village.
Mrs. Reiss' presence and grace will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 16th at 2 PM in the Activity Center at Clark-Lindsey Village, 101 W. Windsor Road, Urbana. Any and all of her many friends are welcome to attend.
