URBANA, IL- George W. "Whitey" Vliet, 73, of Urbana, IL passed away at 6:50 A.M., Monday, August 10, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana. Pastor Ed Potts will officiate. A visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M., Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Whitey was born February 19, 1942 in Urbana, IL, a son of Arthur and Carrie(Chenoweth) Vliet. He married Elizabeth Marie Foster on February 14, 1988. She survives. Also surviving is a son, Chad Vliet(Angela) of Urbana, and a daughter, Bobbi Vliet of Urbana; three step-children, Jeff Rubarts(Lynn) of Paxton, IL, Matt Rubarts(Yoko) of California and Monty Rubarts(Hazel) of California; 11 grandchildren and a sister, Carolyn Hanson of Wisconsin also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and his first wife, June.

Whitey retired after 28 years as a custodian for Judah Christian School in Champaign. He was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship and Laborers Local 703, where he was a 50 year member. He enjoyed spending time with God, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.
