George Riley Roberts, 89 of Urbana died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Manorcare Health Services, Champaign.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sat. March 10, 2007 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness; 2602 West Bloomington Road, Champaign, Elder Ronald Barcus will officiate. There will be no public visitation. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Roberts was born on November 3, 1917 in Champaign, the son of George Washington and Birdie Riley Roberts. He married Mildred Marie Wilson on March 19, 1966 in Calgary Alberta, Canada, she survives.

Also surviving are three sons; Michael George Roberts of Champaign, Darrell James Roberts of Tampa, Florida and Robert A. Wilson of Houston, Texas, two daughters; Sherry Sales of Urbana and Rose Howitt of Calgary Alberta, Canada, one sister; Pearlie Stovall of Champaign, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Mr. Roberts graduated from Edison High School and was a Navy veteran of WW II. He was a mail carrier for the United States Post Office.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness (Woodland Park) Urbana. Mr. Roberts was an accomplished jazz musician.
