Gene Osmond, Jr., 72, of Urbana, passed away at 7:20 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2011 at his home.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 4, 2011 at St. Patrick's Church, 708 W. Main St., Urbana. Fr. Steve Willard will officiate. A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday at the Danville National Cemetery, where military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post 210.

Mr. Osmond was born October 27, 1938 in Janesville, Wisconsin to parents Eugene and Agnes (Shea) Osmond. He married Connie Baer on February 11, 1961 in Crystal Lake, Illinois; she survives.

Also surviving are daughters; Catherine Melander (Rich), of Champaign, Teresa Cowser (Rick), of Champaign, Laura Osmond, of Urbana, sons; Mark Osmond, of Urbana, Michael Osmond (Kristi), of Springfield, grandchildren; Brian Melander (Nikki), of Savoy, Eric Melander, of Champaign, Kevin Melander, of Champaign, Matthew Melander, of Champaign, Jenni Osmond, of Springfield, Kati Osmond, of Springfield, Claire Cowser, of Champaign, Christopher Cowser, of Champaign, Courtney Osmond, of Urbana, Nicholas Ragle, of St. Joseph, brothers; John Osmond (Reta), of Arkansas, Joe Osmond (Bonnie), of Wisconsin, and Tom Osmond (Phyllis), of Wisconsin. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Bob Osmond, and one sister; Mary Osmond.

Mr. Osmond retired after working more than 38 years as a nurse anesthetist. He worked for 27 years at Mercy Hospital in Urbana. He served his country by using his training as an anesthetist at the Naval Hospital in St. Albans, New York during the Vietnam War. Gene was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and VFW.
