Gary Stirewalt, 61, of Urbana, passed away late Monday night, December 22, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Stirewalt was born January 26, 1953 at Burnham Hospital in Champaign, Illinois to parents Laurel "Bud" and Vera Mae (Long) Stirewalt; they preceded him in death. Gary is survived by son, Christopher Stirewalt (Jordan), of Urbana, Illinois, brother, Larry Stirewalt (Penny), of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, two young grandchildren, Evan and Zoe Stirewalt, of Urbana, and niece and nephew, Sunny and Spencer Stirewalt, of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Stirewalt graduated from Urbana High School and was a long-time member of the Champaign-Urbana community. Throughout his 26 year career with the Champaign County Sheriff's Department, Gary held numerous positions, including Deputy Sheriff. He was a proud member of the Champaign Fellowship Circle.

Gary enjoyed people, and never met a stranger in his life. He spent much of his retirement making new friends, and visiting with old ones. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and his family. Gary left a big impression on all he knew, and will be sorely missed.
