Gary Lee Ashby, 78, of Urbana passed away at 3:54 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Military rites will be performed by the United States Air Force & the American Legion Post #71 after the service.

Gary was born on March 24, 1939 in Charleston, IL to parents Phillip Hubert and Cora Mae (Mitchell) Ashby. They preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a son, Guy Ray Dalton, his brother Steven Ashby and his sister Barbara Ashby- Ott.

On November 11, 1967 Gary married Linda (Wascher) Dalton, she survives. Also surviving are their children; Kelly Jo Ashby of Urbana, Tony Ashby of Mahomet, Delinda Dalton- Coy of Champaign, Harold Dalton of Urbana and Toby Dalton of Foosland.

His sister, Linda Ashby, brother Franklin Ashby, grandson, Andrew Ashby, great grandchildren Aziyah & A.J. Ashby and several other grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive him. Gary was a graduate of Urbana High School, class of 1957. After high school he enlisted with the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged Gary came to Urbana and began working at the University of Illinois as an Offset Pressman, retiring after twenty-three years.

Gary was a member of the VFW Post #630, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his family.
