Frank W. Silver, age 84, of Urbana passed away in the early morning of Sunday, September 28, 2014, at home, surrounded by family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday October 1, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana, IL. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. also at Renner-Wikoff Chapel. Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo.
Frank was born January 21, 1930, in Urbana, a son of Frank and Mabel Silver of rural Philo where he was raised on the family farm. He married Doris Coad on October 11, 1957, in Urbana. He was a great husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Doris; sons Darryl (Susan), Alan, and Dan (Karina) Silver; grandsons Kyle, Jacob, and Marcus Silver. Also surviving are siblings Bob (Barbara) Silver, Connie (Don) Harrison, and Walter (Marlene Kessler) Silver. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don; sister, Carolyn; and grandson, Trent Silver.
Frank graduated from Philo High School and then enlisted in the Navy. He served during the Korean War stationed on the U.S.S. Kearsarge. After his honorable discharge from the service, he worked for the Urbana School District, the University of Illinois, and retired from the Parkland College Maintenance Department. After retirement, Frank worked at Curtis Orchard, picking apples among other activities; and managed his farmland.
Frank was a member of the Philo American Legion Post 1171 and the Champaign County Farm Bureau. He was a long time member of Grace Methodist Church of Urbana. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, watching U of I sports, going to horse races, gardening, and playing the lottery. Memorials Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
