Jun 28, 1943 — Dec 18, 2015
Frank Froeschl III, 72, of Champaign passed away on December 18, 2015. A Service of Remembrance and celebration will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 10 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana with Rev. Deborah Owen officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Frank was born in Galveston, Texas on June 28, 1943, son of Frank and Patsy Froeschl. He grew up in Texas City, TX and participated in a variety of sports. He was an especially talented golfer and a member of the Texas City High School golf team that won the state championship two years in a row. He continued to enjoy golf throughout his life and shared his enjoyment of the game with his children, grandchildren, and many friends.
Frank joined the Air Force in September 1961, serving four years at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul as a base plumber. It was during his time stationed at Chanute AFB that a mutual friend introduced Frank to Carol Sinnott. They were married on June 11, 1966, at St Patrick's Church in Urbana and moved back to his home town of Texas City shortly after that. He worked for Marathon Oil Company in Texas City for 11 years. In 1976 they moved back to Champaign, and Frank worked as a carpenter with Sinnott Construction and with the Carpenters Local #44 for 30 years and Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District for 25 years. After his retirement from MTD he also served as a volunteer at Carle Hospital as an escort.
Frank was very involved in his children's activities, and over the years coached several of his sons' baseball and basketball teams and his daughter's flag football team. He enjoyed golfing, including playing in the Twin City Tournament for several years, boating, and spending time with his family. He especially looked forward to his family's annual vacations to the Lake of the Ozarks.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, Frank Froeschl, Jr. and two brothers, Wayne Froeschl and Ric Froeschl, all of Texas City. He is survived by his, wife Carol (Sinnott) Froeschl of Champaign, his children Steven (Leslie) Froeschl of St. Joseph, Stephanie Jurgens of Chatham, Joe Froeschl of Champaign, four grandchildren: Shelby Froeschl, Jacob Jurgens, Bryce Froeschl, and William Jurgens and his mother Patsy Froeschl of Urbana.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Daniel Llano, Carle Hospice, the staff at Bickford Cottage's Mrs. B Memory Care Unit and Tuscola Health Care Center for the kind and compassionate care that they provided to Frank at the end of his life. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests Memorial Contributions be given to SIU Foundation/Alzheimer's Research, P.O. Box 19600, Springfield, IL 62794-9954 (make checks payable to SIU Foundation with the memo line: Alzheimer's Research), or Carle Hospice, 206A W. Anthony Dr., Champaign, IL 61822.
