Frank W. Anderson of Urbana died on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Carle Hospital after a strong battle against cancer. He is survived by his wife Betty of 56 years, his son Kim, daughters Bette, Meg and Penny, and youngest son John; he has nine grandchildren. Frank was born and raised in Urbana and graduated high school in Evanston, IL. He was drafted into the US Army in 1944 and served in an artillery training unit. He earned two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana, Structural Engineering in 1948 and Sanitary Engineering in 1955. After graduation he became the second employee of USI in Tuscola, which is currently LyondellBasell, where he remained until retirement. He served on the Urbana City Council in the early 1960s. He was a consultant to many area communities for their water and sewer treatment facilities, and taught related courses for the Illinois EPA. During retirement he attended the University of Illinois Aviation Mechanic School, earning his Airframe certification in 1998 and Powerplant certification in 2000; he was the school's oldest graduate. Frank was closely attended by his family and friends over the past several weeks, and is remembered as a strong and loving husband and father; always willing to help others with his abilities. An ice cream reception will be held in honor of Frank Anderson on Saturday, July 18, 2009. The reception will be held at 713 W. Oregon, Urbana, IL 61801, from 2 until 4 pm.
