Obituary

Frances I. Smith, 94, was called to Heaven on July 29, 2009 in Champaign, IL. Daughter of Asa and Anna Kasel Short, preceded in death by husband, Harry R. Smith and daughter Janice Elaine; sisters: Beulah Robinette, Jean Goff and brothers Kenneth and Robert Short.

Survived by daughters Beverly J. Frarck and Rita Amacher, sisters Dorothy Robinette, Shirley Bergum and brother, Walter Short, 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren.

Frances retired in 1980 from the Motor Vehicle Department of the State of Minnesota. She was a life-time member of the VFW in St. Paul, MN, and served as President for one year. She was an avid bowler.

Frances and Harry moved to Mission, Texas in 1982. She received an award for volunteering over 2000 hours at Mission Hospital in Mission, TX. She was a Eucharist Minister at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mission, TX, Frances also helped give out commodities.

Member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a volunteer at the Carle Arbours Nursing Home in Savoy, IL, for 8 years helping the residents play bingo, as she liked to say "I help the old people play Bingo", and also exercised 3 times a week at Provena.

She was a friend and spiritual adviser to many, and will be greatly missed and remembered always. We have another Angel in Heaven, as she earned her wings here on earth.

A memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 3, 2009 at Holy Cross Catholic Church 405 West Clark Street, Champaign, IL. Fr. Stephen Willard will officiate. The family will greet friends from 10:30 to the time of the Mass. Burial will be in Minnesota.
