Frances J. Hicks, 88 of Champaign, died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Illini Heritage Rehab and Health Care in Champaign. A funeral mass will be on Thursday, April 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 405 W. Clark St, Champaign. Father Steven Willard will officiate. Private burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery. Frances will be interred with her late husband, William.

Mrs. Hicks was born December 19, 1923 in Ft. Scott, KS, the daughter of James C. and Lucetta Lee (King) Harrison. She married William Wallace Hicks, Jr. on November 29, 1941 and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2004. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Lucetta A. Thompson, parents, a brother and a sister. She is survived by a daughter, Mary J. Toombs of Marble Hill, MO, sons, William W. Hicks III of Riverdale, GA, Stanley W. Hicks and Richard W. Hicks both of Urbana, a brother, David S. Harrison of Overland Park, KS, seventeen grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hicks was a waitress and a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and served as Eucharistic Minister at the church. She liked crochet, knitting, crafts and puzzles. She loved serving her Lord. In lieu of flowers or other offerings, memorial contributions may be made be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
