Emily Jane Allen, 86, of Urbana passed away at 12:40 p.m., Monday, December 31, 2012 at Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.

Mrs. Allen was born May 18, 1926 in East Peoria, Illinois to parents Ernest and Mildred (Coon) Downey and was adopted, with her brother, by Kenneth and Frances Yates as a toddler. She married Allyn B. Allen September 1, 1947 in Washington, Illinois; he preceded her in death June 10, 2001.

Survivors include son; Steve Allen (Susan), of Harrison, Arkansas, daughters; Carolyn Allen, of Urbana, Cathy Simon, of Champaign, Nancy Beasley (Jim), of Champaign, Lisa Davis (Dan), of Mahomet, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, adoptive parents and one brother; Ernest "Jack" Downey.

Mrs. Allen worked as a registered nurse for various Central Illinois hospitals and nursing homes for more than 50 years. She was also a member of both the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign and Shelbyville. Aside from spending time with her family, Emily enjoyed crafts and watching sports.
