Obituary

CHAMPAIGN, IL- Elsie Leah Swearingen, 99, of Champaign, passed away at 1:19 P.M., Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Heartland Health Care Center of Champaign.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Rev. Wallace W. Reifsteck will officiate. Burial will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services at the funeral home.

Mrs. Swearingen was born June 16, 1911 in Ogden, IL, a daughter of William and Cora Elizabeth (Ebert) Peck. She married Vern I. Swearingen on January 12, 1933 in Covington, Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1977. Survivors include a son, Richard Swearingen and wife, Ann of Urbana, 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, LaVerne, three brothers, three sisters, a grandson and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Swearingen attended Ogden schools and worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney and Fields department stores. In later years she worked at the Royal Fontana Nursing Home in Urbana. She was a member of the C-U Bowling Association, where she accomplished membership into the Hall of Fame and she won the Twin City Women's Bowling Championship three consecutive years.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
