Obituary

Elmo Denniston, 87 of Mahomet, formerly of Urbana passed away at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana on Monday, February 23, 2015.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana. Burial will be at the Danville National Cemetery at a later date.

Elmo was born at Cissna Park on July 29, 1927 to Harry and Linnie Tarter Denniston. He married Leah Lewis on December 25, 1950; she passed away in March 1979. He later married Lucy Dodson on June 7, 1980 in Urbana. She survives, also surviving are a son; Rick Denniston of Champaign, two daughters; Kathy (Bob) Niles of Mahomet and Joni (Joe) Chandler of Tolono, One sister; Shirley Pugh of Montgomery, Alabama, six grandchildren; Neill, Amanda, Jessica, Dustin, Jennifer and Ethan, two great grandchildren; Payten and Mackenzie, one step son; Larry (Debbie) Dodson of Ringgold, Georgia, one step daughter; Carolyn (Sonny) Bosecker of Rochelle, two step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son; James, one grandson; Robert, four brothers and five sisters.

Mr. Denniston served in the US Army from October 1950 - August 1952 and was a Purple Heart Recipient.

He retired as a Lieutenant with the Urbana Police Department in 1978. He was also well known in the Champaign-Urbana area for his maintenance and painting business.

Mr. Denniston was an active member of United Commercial Travelers and held many State and Local offices in the organization. He was a Life member of the Urbana VFW Post 630 and the American Legion Post 24, Champaign. He also served on the Police Pension Board.

The family would like to thank the staff at Presence Hospital and the Glenwood assisted Living for their great care and compassion.
