Obituary

Elizabeth Frances (Bette) Smith completed her earthly journey on March 26, 2012. She was born in Morrisonville, IL on June 20, 1918 to William Ruric and Matilda Ethel (Jackson) Eyman. She married Alvin Austin Smith on June 10, 1939. He preceded her in death on January 24, 1998.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Duane) Strunk of Champaign, IL, daughter-in-law Marilyn J. Smith of Texas and six grandchildren, Todd Smith of Texas and Dr. Kristin Smith of Maine, Derek (Kami) Strunk of Heyworth, Nicole (Doug) Webel of Arcadia, IN, Dawn Strunk of Easthampton, Massachusetts, and Colleen (Karl) Scherer of Decatur. She adored her nine great grandchildren, who called her "Grandma Great," Taryn, Danielle, Dane Strunk; Blake, Cole, Ashley Webel; and Jacob, Lindsey, Nicholas Scherer and they adored her. She is also survived by her brother, Karl (Rosemary) Eyman of Springfield, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ethel Mae Raines, and her son Dr. Alan T. Smith.

Bette was a homemaker who spent most of her life in Bartonville, IL. She and Al moved to the Valley of Texas in 1976 following Al's retirement from Caterpillar. She lived there until 2004, when she returned to Illinois. She was truly devoted to her family and served her Lord through her United Methodist faith. She had a smile and a good word for everyone she met.

Celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Savoy United Methodist Church with visitation from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Cremation rites were accorded by Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory. Burial was at the Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Peoria, IL.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Champaign County Nursing Home for the wonderful loving care that they gave to her the past two years and to Carle Hospice for their care the last two months.
