Elise Schmidt, 64, of rural St. Joseph passed away at 6:41 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2011 at her home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Elise was born on June 16, 1947 in Denver, Colorado to parents Eloise (Schaaf) and Gerald Allen. She married Mark Schmidt on November 25, 1975 in Urbana, Illinois; he survives. Also surviving are two daughters; Lindsey Wagner (Matthew), of Oak Lawn, Illinois, Taylor Schmidt, of Champaign, Illinois, sister; Emily Martinez, of Seattle, Washington, one grandson; Theodore Wagner, and two more grandchildren on the way. Elise was preceded in death by her parents.

Elise graduated from George Washington High School in Denver, Colorado in 1965. She received her bachelor's degree in Zoology from the University of Colorado where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Elise earned her Master's of Public Health at the University of Illinois. She taught 7th grade science at Tolono Middle School for seven years and was an instructor at Danville Area Community College for ten years.
