Elinor Sinnott, 98, of Urbana passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at 11:20 a.m. at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the University Place Christian Church, 403 S. Wright St., Champaign. The rev. Terry Ewing and Deborah Owen will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mayview.
Visitation will from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sinnott was born January 16, 1912 in Champaign, the daughter of Walter and Ella Dodson. She married Walter "Walt" Sinnott on February 5, 1933 in Urbana. He died January 22, 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (Frank) Froeschl of Champaign, a son, Roger (Sheryl) Sinnott of Champaign, 5 grandchildren, Denise McCorkle of Champaign, Chery VanHoy (Roger) of Champaign, Jill Burke (James) of Chicago, Steven Froeschl (Leslie) of St. Joseph, Stephanie Jurgens (Matt) of Chatham and Joe Froeschl of Champaign, 10 great grandchildren, Sean Hermann, Garret VanHoy, Conor Burke, Shelby Froeschl, Bryce Froeschl, Christopher Logue, Robert Burke, Megan Burke, Jake Jurgens and Will Jurgens.
She was an active member of University Place Christian Church for 75 years. She was a member and class President of the Somers-Mosher Sunday School class at the church. She was a 78 year active member of the Mayview Unit of Home Extension (HCE) serving as President of the unit several times. She also served on the Champaign County Home Extension Board. She was a life member of the Girl Scouts of America. She was the leader of her daughters Brownie Girl Scout troop and saw them all the way through high school. She was a Girl Scout volunteer and trainer for 35 years. She was a trainer of Girl Scout leaders to be troop leaders and specialized in outdoor training (camping skills and outdoor cooking skills) and wildflower identification and wildflower crafts. She was very active in her children's schools PTA - elementary through high school and very active volunteer in the Urbana schools. She was President of the CU-PTA Council. She was 50+ year member of the Hope Chapter #104 Order of the Eastern Star in Champaign.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local Girls Scouts of Central Illinois, 701 Devonshire Dr., Suite B16, Champaign, 61820, Circle of Friends, 609 W. Washington, Champaign, IL 61820 or charity of the donor's choice.
