Obituary

Elaine Yontz Regehr, long time resident Urbana, formerly of the DePaul neighborhood, Chicago, died at 11:40 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 22 in the Huegy Lounge at Clark-Lindsey Village, Urbana. Rev. John Sims will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Chrisman.

Mrs. Regehr was born November 6, 1927 in Danville, the daughter of William Roger and Urma (Light) Yontz. She married graphic designer and educator, Carl Regehr in 1963 in Chicago and he preceded her in death in 1983. She is survived by a step daughter, Jana Regehr-Armstrong of Chicago, step son, Coby Regehr and sister, Betty Smelcer of Urbana. She is also preceded in death by a brother, George Richard Yontz.

Elaine is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington. She worked with the founders of the Sheffield Garden Walk in the 1960's and was a long time member of the National Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, and the Champaign County Herb Society. She also was an avid weaver and gardener.
