Edith R. Daniels, 89, of Savoy, passed away at 2:17 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Champaign; Rev. Chuck Carlson will officiate. There will be no visitation. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Daniels was born August 5, 1927 in Sterling, Illinois, a daughter of Oscar and Goldie (Swenson) Peterson. She married Eugene Daniels on June 16, 1951.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Cook (Michael), of Champaign and two grandsons, Joseph and Zachary Daniels. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Jeffrey Daniels.

Mrs. Daniels graduated from Augustana College in 1948 with a B.A. degree in speech therapy. She was a speech and language clinician in the public schools for a quarter of a century plus (26 years).

Edith was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign, Alpha Psi Omega (a Dramatic Fraternity), the Red Hat Society, AARP, Former Antiques Study Group, University of Illinois Alumni Association, the Hays Center, Urbana Senior Citizens, Senior Alums, Rebounders, PACE (low vision support group), and various bridge groups.

Mrs. Daniels loved all animals (except squirrels), theatrical and cultural events, and basketball. She played bridge whenever anyone told her where to be and what time to be there.
