Obituary

Earl Dean "Porky" McKinley, 94, of Champaign died at 10:23 a.m. Friday November 10, 2017 at home. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday November 16 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana with burial at Monticello Cemetery in Monticello. Rev. Jerry Nichols will officiate. The C-U Elks Lodge 2497 will provide rites at the funeral home and military honors will be by American Legion Post 71 at the cemetery. There will be reception following the burial at the Champaign-Urbana Elks Lodge, 903 N. Dunlap Ave., Savoy.

Earl was born in Latham on May 25, 1923, the son of Clarence Merritt and Della (Corn) McKinley. He married Florence Vivian Leonard on January 10, 1943 at St. Charles, MO. He is survived by daughters, Kathryn Ann Hillesland (Louis) of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Earleen V. Peters (Charles) of Urbana, sons, Thomas Merrit McKinley (Linda) of Urbana and Timothy Dean McKinley (Cam) of Urbana, six grandchildren, Shelly Dunaway (Roy) of Urbana, Aaron Peters (Barb) of Wentzville, MO, Erica Sawyer of Thomasboro, Paige Robinson of Peoria, Arizona and Toby Livingston (Amy) of Kenosha, Wisconsin, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He is preceded in death by his wife, daughter, Betty Lou, parents and grandson, Sean Peters.

Earl attended grade school in Lodge and high school in Monticello and at Champaign High. He was a sergeant in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked for the News-Gazette in the Composing Room for over 40 years, was a driver and assistant at Mid-State Mortuary/ Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana and for Enterprise Rent-a-Car. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Champaign, a 70 year Life Member of Champaign-Urbana Elks 2497, Life Member of Champaign VFW Post 5520, American Legion Post 24 and AMVETS No. 3. He enjoyed bowling and was Past President of Illinois Elks Bowling Association. Past President and Life Member of Elks National Bowling Association. Past President, Past Secretary and Life Member and Hall of Fame with Champaign County Bowling Association. He was also Past President of Illinois Elks National Bowling Association, served as Secretary of Champaign-Urbana Elks Bowling League for 30 years. He had attended 31 consecutive ABC Bowling Tournaments and attended both state and national Elks tournaments for 55 consecutive years.
