Dr. Alan Abbott Peterson, 82, of Urbana died on Tuesday evening, January 19, 2016 at home.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Urbana, on Saturday at 10 am, January 30th, Rev. Steve Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Stillwater, Minnesota on Feb 1, 2016. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 pm - 8 pm, January 29th at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana.

Dr. Peterson was born on June 27, 1933 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Arthur Perry and Julia Harrison Peterson.

Survivors include his children; Dr. Bradley (Nicole) Peterson of Urbana, IL, Annie (Paul) DePuydt of Denver, CO, Dr. Robert Peterson of Chicago, IL and Timothy (Marina) Peterson of Vienna, Austria and three grandchildren: Maximus and Victoria DePuydt and Olivia Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joan Fredrikson.

Dr. Peterson graduated from the University Of Minnesota College Of Medicine in 1958. He served two years in the United States Public Health Service. After completing his Internal Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Dr. Peterson joined Carle Clinic in 1964. He retired from Carle Clinic, Urbana in 2007. After retirement he continued to volunteer as a physician at Frances Nelson Health Center until 2012. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Urbana, and he enjoyed flying, racquetball and fishing.
