Dorothy I. Tipton, 96 of Champaign died at 3:12 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Illini Heritage Nursing Home, Champaign.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, Rev. Scott Boyd will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born on February 12, 1920 in Clay City, the daughter of Harry and Isabel Barker McKinney. She married Joseph Tipton in 1946 in Flora; he died December 15, 1992.

Survivors include her sister; Erma Ballard of Champaign and a niece, Faye Ballard of Champaign.

She was preceded in death by her son; Carl, two sisters and one brother.

Dorothy graduated from Clay City High School.

She was a member of the WACS in WW II and was discharged as a Corporal.

Dorothy retired from the University of Illinois as a secretary. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Post 24, Champaign. She loved dancing, reading, and playing the organ.
