Obituary

Dorothy Salisbury, 102, of Urbana passed away at 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2013 at Meadowbrook Health Center. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Eunjoo Lee officiating. Burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Champaign.

Mrs. Salisbury was born July 27, 1911 in Decatur, Illinois to parents Orville and Bessie Hinson (Dorr) Cross. She married Glenn Wade Salisbury August 6, 1932 in Buffalo, New York. He preceded her in death February 3, 1994.

Survivors include son, Laird Salisbury (Lynda), daughter, Susan Van Veen (Peter), grandchildren, Jennifer Salisbury, Heather Salisbury, Barbara Wagner, Glenn Richards, great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Schuyler Wagner, niece, Anne Siebert, and nephew, Mark Patterson.

In 1943, Mrs. Salisbury received a B.S. degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Following graduation, she worked as a teaching assistant for the College of Agriculture.

Dorothy was an active member of numerous organizations, including Phi Lamba Theta (Vice President 1942-1943), the P.E.O. Sisterhood (former President and Vice President), Tuesday Tea Club (former President and Vice President), and the University of Illinois Women's Club (first President).

Mrs. Salisbury was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Urbana. One of her favorite pastimes later in life was bird watching at her bird feeder.
