Obituary

Dorothy Lee Houchens, 86, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 12:20 a.m., at Provena-Covenant Medical Center. A visitation will be held Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 1, 2012 at the funeral home, with Pastor Danny Roberts officiating. Burial will be held at Patterson Cemetery, St. Joseph.

Mrs. Houchens was born April 13, 1926 in Urbana, Illinois to parents Arminda (Miller) and Fred B. Ellis. She married William Earl Houchens on her birthday in 1956 in Allerton, Illinois; He preceded her in death on March 27, 2010.

Mrs. Houchens is survived by two sons; Rick Houchens (Sherrill), of Urbana, Keith Evans (Jane), of Farmer City, four grandchildren; Joella and Kevin Evans (Tonya), Brad (Ashley) and Aimee Houchens, and five great-grandchildren; Sydnee, Brayden, and Clayton Evans, and Bryson and Brylee Houchens. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, and one great-grandson; Camron Houchens.

Dorothy worked in the grocery business for more than fifty years before she retired. She was a member of Webber Street Christian Church and the American Legion Post #71 Auxiliary. She was a Cardinals fan and enjoyed reading, cooking, fishing, and flowers. Especially dear to her were her friends, with whom she would meet weekly on Mondays and Fridays. Dorothy cherished her role as a grandmother, and loved her family deeply.
