Obituary

Dorothy Fay Dunn, PhD, age 96, of Urbana, died Tuesday morning March 6th at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 10th at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Sidney with Rev. Michael Smith officiating. There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana.

Dr. Dunn was born on November 23, 1910 at Sidney, the youngest daughter of Lafayette and Jeannettie Thompson Dunn. She is survived by a nephew, John Grobe of Geneva, IL and was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Dunn Grobe and Leah Dunn Linse.

Dr. Dunn received her BS from the University of Illinois, followed by a MS from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and a Doctorate from Purdue University.

She spent her working career helping others in the governmental and educational areas. She began her career as a supervisor of Home Management for the U. S. Department of Agriculture and then served as a commissioned member of the U. S. Public Health Service during World War II.

For many years she was an Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Illinois. She also served as Professor and Department Head of Home Economics at the University of Western Kentucky and a similar position at the University of Wisconsin, Stout. She finished her career as Regional Program Manager for Consumer Affairs with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration in Chicago.

She was a member of many professional organizations, including; The American Association of University Professors, the National Commission on Community Health, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Carle Auxiliary. She attended Grace Methodist Church, Urbana.
