Dorothea Hammer, 83, of Urbana, formerly of Homer, Champaign, Latham, and Cairo, died at 1:20 p.m. Mon., July 23, 2007 in Urbana.

There will be no public services. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory Urbana is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hammer was born on October 4, 1923 in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Henrick and Viola Grey Johnson. She married Richard F. Hammer on Nov. 24, 1945 in Cairo. He managed grain elevators in Central Illinois and died on Aug. 6, 1998.

Survivors include five children; Richard David Hammer of Corvallis, OR, Ann Fejes of Urbana, Charles (Pete) Hammer of San Francisco, CA, William Hammer of DeKalb, and Amy DePue of Knoxville, TN, eleven grandchildren and one great grandson.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a grandson.

Mrs. Hammer graduated from the nursing program at Washington University in St. Louis in 1945. She worked at hospitals in Lincoln, Decatur and Champaign.
