Dorothy Katherine Pennell of Sidney died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehab Center, Savoy.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, Rev. Bill Eastin will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mayview. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011 and from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pennell was born on September 24, 1918 near Urbana, the daughter of Harold A. and Dora Willard Silver. She married George E. Pennell on December 10, 1939, he died in 1975.

Survivors include three sons; Jay Roger (Karen) Pennell of Marengo, George Michael (Jean) Pennell of Sherman and John Harold (Julie) Pennell of Nashville, TN, one brother; Harold (Virginia) Silver of Urbana, seven grandchildren; Brian, Craig, Alicia, Matthew, David, Eva, and Nichole Pennell, three great grandchildren; Alina, Paige and Darren Pennell, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother; Kenneth "Buck" Silver.

Mrs. Pennell graduated from Urbana High School in 1936 and attended Illinois Commercial College.

She worked at Bailey & Himes Sporting Goods on Campus, Carson Pirie Scott, Austin's Sportswear and H & H Equipment Co.

Mrs. Pennell was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, Sidney, and a life member of Hope Chapter of Eastern Star.

Dorothy was a farm wife who will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends; traveling, shopping, flower gardening and keeping up with the activities of her sons and their families.
