Obituary

Donald (Don) F. Rohr, 88, of Mahomet, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the home of his son. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Robin King officiating. A private family burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Mahomet.

Don was born February 13, 1926 in Jasper County, Illinois to parents James and Sadie (Hole) Rohr. They preceded him in death. Don married Roberta Smith March 30, 1945 in Watseka, Illinois. She passed away June 4, 1986.

Don is survived by two daughters, Linda Hoogstraat (Jim), of Mahomet, Deb Gudeman (Stan), of Champaign, son, Walter Rohr, of Mahomet, three grandchildren, Mike Hoogstraat, Calvin Gudeman (Nya), of Minooka, Kendra Buckley (Wayne), of Tuscola, two great-grandchildren, brother, Ken Rohr, of Chebanse, sister, Norma Elliott, of South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews. Don is also survived by a very special friend of many years, Virginia Moore, of Mahomet, and her family. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Sherman and Margie Rohr, and two brothers, Ray and Del Rohr.

Don attended country school in the Onarga/Gilman area. He was a field foreman at the Onarga Nursery for 14 years. In 1972, he moved his family to Mahomet, where he worked as grounds foreman for the Champaign County Forest Preserve until his retirement in 1987. The following 14 years, Don enjoyed working for Mid-State Mortuary Services in Urbana and numerous other funeral homes in the area. His last few years he enjoyed spending time fishing with his son and friends.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make a memorial contribution in Don's memory to the Champaign County Forest Preserve in Mahomet, toward the purchase of benches for playground areas.
