Donald Frederick Hoffmeister 94, of Champaign died at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehab Center, Savoy.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Windsor of Savoy, Savoy Room, Pastor Roger Digges will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, San Bernardino, California. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana.

Mr. Hoffmeister was born on March 21, 1916 in San Bernardino, California, the son of Percival and Julia Baumgartner. He married Helen E. Kaatz in 1940 in San Bernardino, California and she died in 1993, he then married Florence Williamson and she died in 2009.

Survivors include two sons; Robert Hoffmeister of Bellingham, Washington and Ronald Hoffmeister of Phoenix, Arizona and two grandchildren.

Mr. Hoffmeister graduated from the University of California, Berkeley.

He was a Professor of Zoology and Director of Museum of Natural History at the U of I.

Mr. Hoffmeister was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Champaign, the American Society of Mammalogy, Illinois State Academy of Science and the Lions Club.

He enjoyed traveling with his family, bridge, gardening and ballroom dancing.
