Donald Miles Frieburg, 91, of Champaign passed away at 11:54 a.m., Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital. Visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Rd. , Urbana . Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, following the visitation. Rev. David H. Penny will officiate. Burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Military rites will be accorded by the Urbana American Legion Post #71, assisted by the Lincoln's Challenge Academy Color Guard.

Mr. Frieburg was born January 11, 1921 in Congerville, Illinois to parents Roy and Anna (Peak) Frieburg. He married Dora "Jean" Skillings April 15, 1947. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2009.

Survivors include two daughters; Susan Hecht, of Chicago, Linda Penny (David), of Buckley, two grandsons; Jason and Nathan Ducey, granddaughter; Samantha Ducey, great-granddaughter; MaryJane Ducey, sister; Laverne Weber, and brother; Leroy Frieburg (Elsie). Donald was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Frieburg.

After graduating Saybrook High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Corporal Frieburg proudly served during WWII at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Okinawa. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and was the Chaplain of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Donald retired from the University of Illinois.
