Donald E. Carlson 72 of Champaign, died at 9:36 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Barn's Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.

An open house will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at his residence. Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carlson was born on Marcy 8, 1938 in Tampico, the son of Glen and Dorothy Smith Carlson. He was married to Susan Renkes.

Survivors include two sons; Jon (Tod Burkhead) Carlson of St. Louis, Missouri and Jeff (Anne) Carlson of Champaign, and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Mr. Carlson was a Professor of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at the University of Illinois.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Donald E. Carlson Scholarship fund in the College of Engineering Dept. at the University of Illinois.
