Donald J. Brooks, 76, of Savoy, IL., died Sunday, May 10 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Graveside services will be 12:00 noon Thursday, May 14 at the Danville National Cemetery, Danville. Chaplain Jim Williams will officiate. Color Guard and Pall Bearers will be provided by Richard L. Pittman Marine Corps Detachment Post #1231. Military Rites will be by American Legion Post 210, Danville. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Mr. Brooks was born August 14, 1932 at Walhalla, ND, the son of Fred and Agnes (Clark) Brooks. He was married to Margaret Thorlakson. He was a loving father to daughter, Brenda Phelps (Mike) of Eagan, Minn; sons, Scott Brooks of Urbana, Rob Brooks (Dorothy) of Urbana, Lynn Brooks of Lebanon, Mo. and Wade Brooks (April) of Prior Lake, Minn.; brothers, Ray Brooks of Winona, Minn., George Brooks of Minot, N.D. and Lawrence Brooks of Washington State; grandchildren, Jennifer, Melody, Kristin, Kaitlynn, Ben, Kacie, Alex and Carrie Brooks and Caeden Phelps.

Mr. Brooks graduated from Walhalla, ND High School and Mayville State College, Fargo, ND. He was All American in sports through high school and college. He worked in upper management for S S Kresge Co. (Kmart) for over 30 years. He was a life member and Past Commander of VFW Post # 5488, Union Town, KY, life member of Urbana American Legion Post #71 and life member of the Non Commissioned Officers Association of the United States. He served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He enjoyed his work, hunting and his family.
