Donald Eugene Babbs, 84, of Urbana died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana; the Rev. Dennis Anglin will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Babbs was born on September 6, 1926 in Harvey, Illinois, the son of Orville and Lois Burton Babbs. He married June Lillian Hatter on June 5, 1950 in Jefferson City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on August 31, 2010.

Survivors include one daughter; Gail (Rick) Broom of Urbana; one brother; Kenneth Babbs of Urbana; and two grandchildren, Jared Broom and Krista Broom of Urbana.

He was preceded in death by one son; Dwight and two brothers; Wesley and Howard.

Mr. Babbs retired after 21 years as an Urbana Fireman and 8 years as a parking meter enforcement officer.

He was a member of the Urbana Retired Firefighters; he enjoyed sports, the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, cars and motorcycles.
