URBANA, IL- Denny Roger Allen, 79, of Urbana, Illinois passed away at 4:01 A.M., Monday, December 25, 2017 at his home.
A visitation will be held from 2-4 P.M., Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Military rites will be held immediately following the visitation at 4:00 P.M. A dinner will be held at the Urbana V.F.W. following military rites.
Denny was born on May 22, 1938 in Lawrenceville, IL, a son of Charles and Charlene (McGuire) Allen. He married Marajen Stacy on June 19, 1998. She survives. Also surviving is a son, Steve (Laura) Allen of Tennessee; two daughters, Angela (Robert) Waller and Jennifer Jenkins, both of Urbana, IL. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren survive including Alexa Waller and Shelby Jenkins, both of Urbana; Chasity, Chad and Chelsee Allen, Rachel and Christopher Allen, and Amy and Johnny Johnson, as well as, 3 brothers, Richard Allen of Florida, Ronnie Allen of Urbana and Percy Allen of Urbana. He is also survived by his best friend, Zada.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Rex Allen, a daughter, Vicki Benson, and his twin sister, Shirley McClain.
Denny served in the United States Army from December 5, 1956 to December 3, 1958 in Beirut, Lebanon. He worked as a maintenance engineer for Meadow Gold Dairy in Champaign for many years and was a member of the Champaign V.F.W., AMVETS, and he was a life member of the Urbana V.F.W. and Urbana American Legion. He served as Past Commander of the Champaign V.F.W. from 1985-1988 and was the assistant bar manager and caretaker of the Urbana V.F.W. Denny enjoyed camping, NASCAR racing and hanging out with friends at the local V.F.W. Denny was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and his smile will be truly missed by many.
