Obituary

Dennis Leroy Gill, 73, of Urbana, passed away Saturday, March 26th, 2016 at 3:38 a.m., surrounded by his loving family. A private graveside service at Mt. Olive Cemetery will be held following cremation at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory. Pastor Steve Lombardo of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gifford will officiate the graveside service.

Mr. Gill was born February 3rd, 1943 in Mattoon, Illinois to parents Elwin and Irene (Huff) Gill. They preceded him in death. He married Eveleen (Evie) Schenck December 7th, 1990 in Rantoul, Illinois; she survives. Also surviving are children: Dwayne Gill (Robin), of Urbana, Illinois, Nancy Liedman (Matt), of Rantoul, Illinois, Patty Fann (Tony), of Minier, Illinois, and Matthew Gill (fiancAC., Carina Hilber), of Urbana, Illinois. Dennis is also survived by eight grandchildren, his sister in law, Lois Gill of Huntsville, Alabama as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A son, Jeff Gill, infant daughter, Pamela Sue Gill, and siblings, Richard Gill, Dorothy Dunaway, and Lois Ann Matthews preceded Dennis in death.

Mr. Gill was an expert meat cutter and successfully worked in various capacities from meat cutter to meat market manager in various locations for Eisner's Food Stores and other retail markets. He also proudly owned and operated the Broadland's Star Market in Broadlands, IL. After leaving the retail world he worked for several years at Carle Clinic in the financial services department.

Dennis was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed family gatherings and masterfully displayed his cooking and grilling skills for his family and friends on many occasions. He greatly enjoyed camping, fishing, playing Euchre and he passionately followed politics. He especially loved the time with his children and grandchildren. Dennis took great interest in family heritage and actively pursued his family ancestry in addition to coordinating many family reunions over the years. Dennis was an avid Cardinals fan and watched the Cardinals games faithfully.

The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate and professional care given to Dennis by his Carle Hospice care manager, Marj, R.N.
