Daniel Keith Slack, 73, of Gibson City passed away at 9:48 P.M. on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Gibson Area Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory. Pastor Jeff Stahl will officiate. The visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded.
Dan was born in Champaign on April 17, 1942 to parents Stanley R. and Mary C. (Powell) Slack. They preceded him in death.
On August 12, 1989 he married Marsha Dillman in Brandenburg, Kentucky. She survives. Also surviving are his children; Mary Eileen (Randy) Deck of Hendersonville, TN, Julie Michelle (Kenneth) Nelson also of Hendersonville, TN and Daniel William Slack of Champaign, His step-children are Gayle Lynn Polk (LeAntwone) Davis of Champaign, Aaron Matthew (Mandi) Polk of Rantoul and Kipton Lee (Amanda) Polk of Champaign. Dan is also survived by his sister; Catherine M. Thuney of Urbana, ten grandchildren and one grandchild who is on the way.
Dan was a graduate of Urbana High School. He worked as a technician for Automatic Music for over thirty years. He also worked at the U of I Assembly Hall as both a gateman and a parking lot attendant. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Pollywogs Sportsman Club at Oakwood Illinois. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA and the Monticello Railroad Museum.
Dan loved trains, especially steam engines and all types of cars and seemed to be able to fix anything. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at Starved Rock and Nashville Indiana. His favorite form of entertainment was the old western movies.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Food Bank in Dan's memory.
